Your Holiday In Didim
The coastal area around Didim is known as Altinkum (literally ‘Golden Sands’), and the area certainly lives up to its name with miles of glorious coastline framed by a spectacular mountain backdrop. Dolphin Square is the main centre of Altinkum, and this is where you will find many fascinating restaurants, bars and shops. Just a short dolmus ride away you can find the huge weekly market where you can buy everything from spices to clothes. There you will have the opportunity to sharpen up on those haggling skills!
Altinkum is also steeped with history and surrounded by a number of famous historical sites, including the Temple of Apollo. Built in the 8th Century B.C, there were 122 Ionic columns around the template, but only 3 remain intact today. Nearby you can also find the Roman city of Ephesus, which is regarded as the best preserved ancient city in Asia Minor.
Each night, the promenade comes alive with friendly local Turkish families strolling up and down to the sounds of live Turkish music. As many European visitors who are drawn back year after year will happily confirm, the locals are warm and welcoming, encouraging visitors to enjoy the exotic delights of a place where East meets West.
